The Low Tatras main ridge (part 2)

This spring I completed the Low Tatras main ridge tour, namely the part between the town of Donovaly and Chopok, a mountain boasting a height of 2024 meters hence making it the third highest peak in the Low Tatras mountain range (the highest is Ďumbier with 2043 meters).

Hike to Kirkjubøreyn (Faroe Islands)

The Faroe Islands are a group of eighteen islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, boasting beside their remoteness with very erratic and unpredictable weather all year round.

So doing small hikes in the vicinity of settlements like the capital Tórshavn are kind of reasonable outdoor activities, but anything beyond that would be rather foolish during the winter time.

Winter hike on the GR20

A solitary outdoor tour in a high altitude environment can be a liberating and meditative experience.

It is a calculated risk though, so it goes without saying that tours in wintry and cold conditions in remote mountain areas demand a great deal of careful preparation.

There will no one be around when problems arise, and you’ll lack the often very much needed morale support from your fellow hikers.
