Description

Hiking and climbing tour from Štrbské Pleso (1355 meters) to Vysoká (2547 meters) via Chata pod Rysmi (2250 meters).

Vysoká (Polish: Wysoka), sometimes referred to as the “Matterhorn of the Tatras” or the “Slovak Matterhorn” (I suppose in terms of aesthetics this title is more appropriate for Kriváň), is a conspiciuous peak in the Slovak part of the High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry) mountain range.

Note: every height stated is AMSL, i.e. Above Mean Sea Level.

Notes and recommendations (summer)

Moderately difficult climbing starting at sedlo Váha (2337 meters), yet in no place above UIAA II on the normal route in my opinion. Chains and metal steps are attached to the rock in places to make it easier.

There exist no markings for it is not an official tourist trail, so the challenge is not getting lost rather than the technical climbing part. You must wear a helmet for loose rocks pose a serious risk, on this non tourist trail in particular. Some people also use ropes here, I did not use one.

Special note: The general visitor is not allowed to hike to Chata pod Rysmi (and beyond) in winter for there is a winter closure in the Slovak High Tatras.
